A young woman from Greece named Rhodopis is kidnapped and taken to Egypt where she is sold as a slave. She is mistreated and alienated by the other slaves, simply because she appears ʻdifferent.' Nevertheless, she is such a wonderful dancer her master rewards her with a pair of shoes. One day, the god Horus steals one of her shoes and drops it from the sky into the lap of the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh knows this means he must marry the woman who can wear the shoe. He searches until he finds Rhodopis, the shoe fits, and they are married.
