Nyema the sky god makes the world out of clay and lowers it in a basket to the emptiness below heaven. When Nyema sneezes, two spirits, a boy and a girl, fall from Nyemaʼs mouth down into the world below. The two spirits form babies of every skin colour from the clay, thus becoming the first mother and father.
